Simon Levy, a serial sex offender monitored by the Metropolitan Police, was convicted of murdering two women and raping a third in London, according to reports from the BBC. Levy killed 53-year-old Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo in March 2025 and 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins five months later in Tottenham. Court proceedings at the Old Bailey revealed that Levy targeted vulnerable women who engaged in street sex work to fund drug addictions.
Trial Verdicts and Charges at the Old Bailey
During the trial, jurors heard that Levy had a history of attacking women dating back to July 2018, which included an assault on a prison officer in 2022, as reported by the BBC. Levy chose not to give evidence during the proceedings. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, two counts of rape, grievous bodily harm with intent, and non-fatal suffocation against a surviving victim who was attacked in a Tottenham car park in January 2025.
According to BBC News, the jury deliberated for 13 hours before returning guilty verdicts on all charges. Judge Mark Lucraft KC adjourned sentencing until Wednesday, August 12, and remanded Levy into custody.
Institutional Failings and Official Responses
Following the convictions, the Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police, and the Crown Prosecution Service admitted failings in their handling of Levy while he was on bail, according to BBC reporting. London’s Victims’ Commissioner Andrea Simon stated to the BBC that she was “appalled by the litany of failures to manage a prolific offender like Levy.”
Crime and Policing Minister Sarah Jones called the situation deeply concerning, noting in reports from the BBC that the case raises serious questions requiring urgent answers. Helena Croft, chief executive officer of StreetlightUK, told the BBC that the case demonstrated a critical need to treat women in the sex industry as individuals at risk of severe violence, pointing to missed opportunities in listening to frontline services and sharing information.
Prior Convictions and Investigation Gaps
The BBC reported that Levy was found guilty in February of sexually assaulting a female staff member at HMP Brixton alongside 10 women on London’s railway and Tube networks.
The Metropolitan Police admitted to the BBC that numerous errors in how Levy was managed contributed to Wilkins’ death, which could have been prevented. Notably, the Met initially failed to treat Valencia-Trujillo’s death as a murder—despite arresting Levy soon after and finding his DNA on her body—until after he killed again.
