Nicole Kidman Admits Feeling ‘Fearful and Vulnerable’ Following Keith Urban Divorce

Nicole Kidman has opened up about facing deep vulnerability and an entirely unknown future following her divorce from country singer Keith Urban, according to interviews published in British Vogue and reported by outlets including EVOKE and The Independent.

Navigating Post-Divorce Uncertainty

According to British Vogue, Nicole Kidman admitted to experiencing a period of intense personal uncertainty after her 19-year marriage to Keith Urban ended. The couple quietly filed for divorce in Nashville last September, and the split was finalized in January, citing irreconcilable differences. Reflecting on the breakdown of her marriage, the 59-year-old Australian actress explained to the magazine that her life has taken a path she did not anticipate. Kidman told British Vogue that there was a point where she felt very fearful and deeply vulnerable, noting that it is an exposing experience. She stated that she faced a choice between curling up to avoid confronting the situation or moving forward with an enormous amount of hope. She added that while she had a different view of what her life was going to be, she has had to adjust, adapt, and accept that the future is completely unknown to her.

A Feelings-First Approach to Life and Career

According to EVOKE and The Independent, Kidman approaches both her personal and professional life with a feelings-first mindset. Speaking with British Vogue, the actress explained that she does not overthink things and leads with her heart rather than analytical thought. She noted that this approach sometimes throws people who might expect her to be far more measured. While she can approach things intellectually, her stated desire is not to be ruled by her head. Kidman expressed a lifelong commitment to living a well-examined life, which she described as trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, and keeping her heart open to possibilities.

Custody and Background Context

According to The Independent, Kidman and Urban agreed to share custody of their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith, without seeking spousal support or requiring a court appearance. The marriage to Urban was Kidman’s second, following her marriage to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, which she also reflected on in her British Vogue interview by recalling how they fell madly in love when she was in her early twenties. Kidman and Urban originally met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. Kidman’s upcoming professional projects include the release of Practical Magic 2 in Ireland this September, according to EVOKE.
