Botanical Classification and Discovery Details

Scientists working in northern Madagascar isolated the distinct genetic and physical traits distinguishing the new baobab from previously cataloged varieties. According to research teams from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and local academic partners, morphological markers such as floral structure and seed shape proved critical in separating the population. Genetic sequencing confirmed that the trees maintain distinct evolutionary lineages separate from other Malagasy baobabs, despite sharing similar dry-forest habitats.
