According to the July 2026 findings published by Travel + Leisure, more than 661,000 votes were cast during the 31st annual survey, which evaluates island escapes, city itineraries, hotels, and safari outfitters worldwide.

Koh Samui Takes the Number One Ranking in 2026

The island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand achieved a score of 95.64 to claim the top position. According to Travel + Leisure editors, the destination features an array of elevated accommodations, lush jungles, and roaring waterfalls, establishing itself as a prominent hub for self-care and coastal travel.

Top-Ranked Asian Islands in the Global Survey

Several other destinations across Asia secured prominent positions in the 2026 World’s Best Awards standings. The Maldives followed closely behind in the global rankings with a score of 95.38, maintaining its position as a primary destination for luxury resort stays and overwater accommodations. Indonesia’s Bali scored 93.20, retaining its widespread appeal for culture, wellness, and extended itineraries. Phuket, Thailand, earned a score of 93.18, valued by travelers for its accessible infrastructure and as a primary gateway for first-time visitors to the region. Additionally, Sri Lanka secured a score of 92.67 in the broader category standings.
