Utah Jazz player Lauri Markkanen traveled to Finland to join his national team for international window play, backed by visits from several of his NBA teammates and coaching staff.
NBA Support in International Play
Markkanen recorded 17 points, six rebonds, and three interceptions during Finland’s 93-78 victory over Iceland, playing in front of his visiting NBA personnel. Will Hardy noted the value of the trip for team chemistry during the offseason window. According to Hardy, playing for a national team provides a unique career experience while allowing the Jazz group to build personal bonds away from the standard NBA schedule.
“You can only play a limited number of games in your life and playing for your national team is a unique experience,” Hardy stated, as reported by Basket USA. “We will always support Lauri when he plays for Finland as long as he stays in health.”
Team Bonding and Global Presence
Hardy emphasized that these international gatherings serve a vital role in strengthening interpersonal relationships within the Utah organization.
“These three players are really important for the team,” Hardy said, according to Basket USA. “This allows us to have the opportunity to get together and be away from everything. Thus, they can train, but the human aspect, relationships, and creation of bonds have been the most important elements.”

The team scheduled matches against Sweden at home and Estonia on the road. Entering these fixtures, Finland held second place in Group L with a record of four wins and two losses, trailing only France.
