Temperatures have surpassed the 30-degree threshold 43 times this season, outpacing the 32 occurrences documented during the 2003 benchmark summer.

In 2003, primary temperature readings in the region were gathered by MeteoSchweiz from a station in Liebefeld, a densely built-up environment that rapidly retains heat. Modern reporting relies heavily on stations such as Bern-Zollikofen, situated in a more rural setting where ground dryness heavily dictates ambient temperature spikes.
Urban heat island effects further amplify regional discrepancies. According to the urban heat mapping project Stadthitze.be, real-time sensors indicate that locations like the Marzili district can be up to 5 degrees Celsius warmer than Zollikofen due to sandstone architecture that stores and radiates solar energy long after sunset.
