Club América has formally approached Real Betis to inquire about signing Colombian forward Nelson Deossa, according to reports from Fox Sports and Mexican media outlets. The Liga MX leaders, managed by Guillermo Almada, are targeting Nelson Deossa to bolster their squad in a potential club-record transfer.
Transfer Valuation and Club Record Stakes
Real Betis has placed a 15 million dollar valuation, equivalent to roughly 12,85M€, on Deossa, according to Fox Sports reporting. Almada has urged the América board to make a major financial push for the player. Such a transaction would eclipse América’s historical transfer record, as the club has never previously surpassed 11 millones de euros for a single player acquisition. Almada previously managed Deossa at Pachuca before the player moved to Monterrey in January 2025 for 5,8M€, subsequently joining Real Betis in August 2025 for double that fee at 11,6M€.
Previous Negotiations and Premier League Interest
Real Betis remains open to parting ways with Deossa at the requested valuation. The Spanish club previously discussed a potential loan deal containing a mandatory purchase option at the end of the season with Brazilian side Vasco da Gama, though that arrangement stalled due to institutional and financial complications at the club. Beyond Mexico, Deossa has also drawn attention from several Premier League clubs, including Ipswich, Leeds, West Ham, and Wolverhampton, according to media tracking the transfer window.
Squad Planning and Pellegrini’s Plans
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has deployed Deossa as a forward during the summer friendlies, including an appearance where Deossa scored from the penalty spot in Real Betis’s opening pre-season match. With the transfer window drawing to a close, Betis must offload a significant member of the first team to clear space and register Dani Ceballos. Deossa has emerged as the primary candidate for departure as the club looks to balance its squad and financial requirements.
