Earthquake Details and Impact in Tokyo

The earthquake originated about 2.5 miles north-northwest of Toride at a depth of roughly 48 miles, according to USGS data. Moderate shaking rippled across several nearby prefectures, including Ibaraki, Chiba, and Saitama. The tremors reached the Tokyo metropolitan area, which houses more than 35 million residents as one of the world’s most populous urban regions.

Despite the widespread feeling of the quake across the capital region, the USGS issued a Green PAGER alert. This classification denotes a low likelihood of significant fatalities or economic losses resulting from the tremor. Furthermore, the Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that there was no threat of a tsunami.
