KATSEYE Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with Third Mini-Album ‘WILD

Global girl group Katseye has claimed the number-one spot on the US Billboard 200 albums chart with their third EP, “Wild,” according to chart data published by Billboard. Formed through a joint venture between Hybe and Universal Music Group’s Geffen Records, the multinational sextet reached the milestone in August following the album’s release, marking their first career leader on the tally.

Billboard 200 Debut and Sales Breakdown

According to Billboard, “Wild” earned 17만장의 equivalent album units in the United States during its tracking week. Traditional album sales accounted for 14만5000장의 of that total, propelling the project to number one on the Top Album Sales chart as well. Streaming-equivalent album units totaled 2만4500장, while track-equivalent downloads added 500 units. The 17만장의-unit sum makes Katseye the fourth female group to top the Billboard 200 since 2020, following Blackpink’s “Born Pink,” NewJeans’ “Get Up,” and Twice’s “With YOU-th,” as reported by Billboard.

Album Production and Tracklist Details

The EP explores themes of self-acceptance, instinct, and personal freedom, according to Hybe. The title track, “Hootie Frutti,” centers on a percussion-driven pop production featuring heavy drum beats and playful lyricism. The record’s production roster includes Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk alongside pop artist Ed Sheeran, Omer Fedi, and Blake Slatkin. Prior to its US chart performance, the EP reached number two on the UK Official Albums Chart, marking the group’s highest placement on that ranking.

Path to Stardom and K-Pop Legacy

Katseye was assembled through “The Debut: Dream Academy,” a televised audition program run by Hybe and Geffen Records. Following their 2024 debut in the United States, the group released singles including “Gnarly” and “Gabriela,” and earned a nomination for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in February. Their Billboard 200 achievement places them alongside fellow Hybe-associated and K-pop acts who have reached the top of the US album ranking, a list that includes BTS, SuperM, Stray Kids, Ateez, and Tomorrow X Together.
