Pinterest, Inc. shares gained 21.7% over a three-month period, driven by second-quarter revenue growth, record user milestones, and new artificial intelligence-led advertising features, according to financial market data. The recent stock advance places the durability of the platform’s financial recovery at the center of investor focus as management ramps up spending on AI infrastructure.
Pinterest Second-Quarter Financial Strength Supports Rebound
According to financial reports, Pinterest generated $1.18 billion in revenue for the second quarter, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Non-GAAP earnings reached 43 cents per share, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 36 cents by 19.4%. Revenue in the U.S. and Canada climbed 18% to reach $880 million.
Profitability metrics expanded alongside top-line gains. Adjusted EBITDA grew 24% year over year to $311 million, lifting the profit margin to 26%. Furthermore, Pinterest produced $270 million in free cash flow, reinforcing the operating recovery with heightened cash generation.
AI Ad Tools and Competitive Pressures
Monetization efforts are increasingly anchored by automated advertising features. Pinterest Performance+ automates campaign setup, bidding, budgeting, targeting, and creative optimization. According to company performance data, advertisers utilizing the tool have achieved better return on ad spend and faster spending growth than non-adopters. Additionally, early alpha testing of Smart Assembly delivered a 6% average improvement in click-through rates, while Business Assistant remains in beta testing.
Despite these product rollouts, competition across the digital advertising sector remains intense. Meta Platforms, Inc. reported second-quarter ad impressions up 14% alongside a 12% rise in average price per ad, noting that AI is accelerating its core business. Snap Inc. similarly posted 19% second-quarter revenue growth. Pinterest must continue converting its proprietary AI investments into sustained advertiser returns to maintain pace with larger platform rivals.
Record User Growth Led by Gen Z Cohorts
Global monthly active users reached 640 million in the second quarter, marking an 11% increase year over year. The milestone represents Pinterest’s 12th consecutive quarter of record users and its 11th straight quarter of double-digit user growth, with expansion recorded across all three reported geographic regions.
Generation Z remains the platform’s largest and fastest-growing demographic cohort, accounting for more than half of the total user base. The platform facilitates more than 80 billion searches each month. The vast majority of these searches are visual, and more than half are commercial in nature, providing a large foundational base for personalized discovery and shopping.
Earnings Estimate Revisions and Cost Pressures
Despite the stock’s recent advance, analysts have adjusted near-term expectations. The current fiscal-year earnings per share estimate moved 5.2% lower over a four-week span and 10.7% lower over a 12-week window, tempering the fundamental backdrop following the share-price rally.
Higher investment spending also offsets gross gains. Non-GAAP cost of revenue rose 25% to $245 million in the second quarter, driven in part by additional graphics processing unit capacity and tvScientific. Non-GAAP operating expenses increased 13% to $629 million, reflecting heightened sales, marketing, and research and development allocations dedicated to AI and product initiatives.
