Waterford GAA and HSE Launch Mental Health Signage Initiative

The public awareness effort places mental health support messaging across 51 GAA clubs throughout the city and county.

Waterford GAA Clubs Install Wellbeing Signage

The rollout includes prominent displays at the two county grounds—Walsh Park in Waterford City and Fraher Field in Dungarvan—as well as the SETU Sports Arena at Carriganore.

Gina Delaney of Mental Health Ireland states that the signs feature the Five Ways to Wellbeing, which outline daily actions designed to maintain or improve personal mental health.

Connecting Residents with 24/7 Support Services

The signage directs individuals in distress toward essential 24/7 support services that remain available day and night, according to Tracy Nugent of the HSE Regional Suicide Resource Office and lead for Connecting for Life. Nugent notes that these national services act as a primary point of contact and connect callers to local resources when necessary.

Eoin Morrissey, Healthy Waterford Coordinator in Waterford City and County Council, describes the displays as more than standard informational notices. Morrissey explains that the signs serve as conversation starters intended to foster greater openness around mental healthcare in local communities.

Partnership and Funding Details

The mental health initiative is a joint collaboration between:

• HSE Connecting for Life South East Community Healthcare
• Healthy Waterford under Waterford City and County Council
• Mental Health Ireland
• Waterford GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee

Financial backing for the project is jointly provided by the HSE under its Connecting for Life strategy and by Healthy Waterford under the Waterford City and County Council. Distribution of the physical signs to local clubs is scheduled to take place over the coming weeks.
