The inaugural Festival de Cine Mitote brought more than 250 short films from across Mexico to San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, on August 21 and 22, according to reports by El Universal and La Razón. Designed by and for university students, the event served as a new exhibition platform for emerging national talent, featuring works in fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental cinema.
Competition and Venue Details
Out of the submissions received during a call for entries held from March 31 through June, a selection committee chose 52 projects for the official competition, as reported by El Universal. Screenings and related activities took place at the Teatro Cholula Ciudad Sagrada and the Auditorio Guillermo y Sofía Jenkins at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), according to La Razón.
The festival aims to connect new filmmakers, facilitate experience exchanges, and strengthen independent cinema in Mexico. Beyond screenings, the program featured a professional master class by director Pierre Saint-Martin, who discussed his career and recent film “No nos moverán,” which earned multiple nominations at the 67th Ariel Awards, according to El Universal.
Festival Award Winners
A committee of art and film specialists from Puebla universities evaluated the competing projects. The jury panel included Karla Lucía Paquini, Juan Carlos Reyes, Regina Ríos, Ana Patricia Ventura, and Enrique Delfín, as detailed by La Razón.
