The U.S. Postal Service announced a temporary price adjustment for select package products ahead of the 2026 peak holiday shopping season, according to a filing submitted to the Postal Regulatory Commission on August 25, 2026.
Impacted Services and Effective Dates
No other postal products or services will experience price adjustments during this period. Pending a favorable review by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the temporary rates are scheduled to take effect at 12 a.m. Central Time on October 4, 2026. The seasonal pricing will remain in place until 12 a.m. Central Time on January 17, 2027.
Postal officials stated that the temporary adjustments are designed to offset extra handling expenses incurred during the high-volume holiday shipping months. According to organization notices, aligning these rates with competitive commercial practices supports the Postal Service’s broader financial transformation plan.
Retail and Commercial Rate Structure
The planned adjustments vary by service tier, zone, and weight class for both retail and commercial customers. For retail Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage across Zones 1 through 4, increases range from $0.50 for packages weighing up to 3 pounds to $3.90 for parcels weighing between 26 and 70 pounds or classified as oversized. For longer-distance shipments in Zones 5 through 9, retail Priority Mail increases span from $1.00 for the lightest tier up to $9.10 for heavier packages.
Flat-rate shipping options are also included in the seasonal adjustment. Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Boxes will see a $2.10 increase, while all other Priority Mail Flat Rate products will increase by $1.00. Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Envelopes are slated for a $2.35 increase.
Commercial shippers will encounter structured adjustments across similar weight increments. Commercial Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage for Zones 1 through 4 will increase by $0.40 for packages up to 3 pounds and up to $3.15 for heavier shipments. Parcel Select entries will see commercial increases ranging from $0.40 for packages under 3 pounds up to $2.35 for items weighing between 26 and 70 pounds and oversized parcels.
Financial Sustainability and Statutory Mission
According to Postal Service documentation, the seasonal pricing adjustments directly support the agency’s public service mission. The organization aims to maintain a nationwide, integrated network capable of delivering mail and packages at least six days a week in a financially sustainable manner, in accordance with directives from the U.S. Congress.
