According to social media statements released by Barry Manilow on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, his recent performance schedule heavily impacted his vocal stamina. The artist completed a summer tour spanning 29 shows across 68 days before returning to his Las Vegas residency dates. “We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard,” Manilow stated in his announcement. Following the cancellations, Manilow confirmed he is taking a brief respite before returning to the International Theater at the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8, 2024, with performances scheduled through the end of December.

Prior Lung Cancer Surgery and Health Recovery

The touring pause follows Manilow’s recovery from stage 1 lung cancer surgery, which he underwent in late November 2023. According to an interview with People magazine published in March 2024, the singer discovered the condition incidentally after visiting a doctor for hip pain. Medical evaluations, including an MRI prompted by bouts of bronchitis, identified a small nodule on his lung. “They called me and said, ‘Could be cancer.’ That’s a bad word,” Manilow told People. Surgeons successfully removed the affected portion of the lung before the disease spread. Speaking with NPR in June 2024 surrounding the release of his album What A Time, Manilow noted that medical professionals indicated a full recovery takes up to a year.

Residency Resumption and Rescheduled Dates

The interrupted Las Vegas residency dates are slated for rescheduling, with box office representatives organizing makeup dates. Manilow’s scheduled return on October 8 remains on track as the singer focuses on vocal rest and recovery.
