Mercedes-Benz has expanded its electric and family vehicle lineup with the launch of the new seven-seat electric GLB and the all-electric GLC in Ireland. According to Mercedes-Benz Ireland, the dual rollout represents a major strategic push into the premium electric and hybrid segments, offering buyers a wider array of powertrain options.
Pricing and Range for the New Mercedes-Benz GLB
According to Mercedes-Benz Ireland, the new GLB is longer and wider than its predecessor, featuring a slightly lower roofline and an adjustable second row that lets owners adapt the seven-seat configuration for passengers or cargo. Prices for the GLB start at €59,355, with the model available in four fully electric variants and five hybrid electric variants. Electric versions deliver a driving range between 425km and 624km depending on the specification. The vehicle supports fast charging, allowing the battery to replenish from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes, according to company specifications. Luggage capacity ranges from 540 litres up to 1,715 litres with the rear seats folded, while electric variants include an additional 127-litre front storage compartment.
Design and Technology in the All-Electric GLC
Positioned alongside existing diesel, petrol, and plug-in hybrid variants, the new all-electric GLC introduces a fresh design language for the German carmaker, according to Mercedes-Benz. Exterior updates feature a redesigned illuminated grille, a sleeker silhouette, and more pronounced wheel arches. Inside, the cabin incorporates the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system integrated with Microsoft and Google AI technologies, alongside a Superscreen setup. Prices for the all-electric GLC start at €72,085. The three electric variants offer a driving range of up to 664km using an 800-volt electrical system. Mercedes-Benz states that a 10% to 80% charge takes 22 minutes, and the vehicle can add more than 300km of range in roughly 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
Market Context and Strategic Impact
Patrick Howlett, National Sales Manager at Mercedes-Benz Ireland, described the dual vehicle arrivals as a defining moment for the brand in the country. The GLB interior incorporates vegan trim and upholstery alongside five ISOFIX mounting points across the rear seating area, while both vehicle lines feature upgraded driver assistance and battery protection systems.
