U.S. 10-Year Treasury Yields at 5.25%-5.85% Could Trigger Fed Intervention and Boost Bitcoin: Strive CEO

Bitcoin could emerge as a macro hedge if surging U.S. 10-year Treasury yields force federal policy interventions, according to Strive CEO Matt Cole. As long-term borrowing costs approach a critical 5.25~5.85% threshold, mounting fiscal pressures might trigger severe dollar weakness and propel scarce assets higher.

The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield functions as the foundational benchmark for global borrowing costs, influencing everything from corporate discount rates to residential mortgages. According to Strive’s analysis published on ChainCatcher, yields climbing into the 5.25~5.85% range represent a policy tipping point rather than a mere technical chart resistance. Strive CEO Matt Cole notes that this zone reflects unsustainable federal debt trajectories rather than standard market fluctuations.

U.S. budget deficits currently hover near 6% of gross domestic product, driven largely by expanding mandatory welfare and healthcare outlays. While Cole agrees with Druckenmiller's diagnosis, he remains skeptical that political parties can successfully legislate major entitlement reforms without facing voter backlash.

Federal Reserve Holdings and Treasury Buybacks

According to Strive’s commentary, the Federal Reserve holds roughly $1조6000억 달러 in U.S. debt maturing beyond ten years, representing approximately 28% of the long-term sovereign debt market. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department has doubled its planned buybacks of 10- to 30-year bonds to manage market liquidity.

Cole contends these targeted buybacks are insufficient to reverse systemic upward pressure on long-term rates. Instead, active government intervention signals administrative sensitivity to high yields, potentially inviting bond vigilantes to test official policy thresholds. If the 10-year yield breaches the 5.25~5.85% band, policy makers may have to weigh aggressive alternatives, including expanded debt buybacks, increased reliance on short-term bill issuance, or renewed quantitative easing via Federal Reserve balance sheet expansion.

Dollar Weakness and the Bitcoin Thesis

Interventions aimed at artificially suppressing long-term yields carry significant currency risks. Cole argues that aggressive efforts to cap borrowing costs could transfer downward adjustment pressure directly onto the U.S. dollar, opening the door for the DXY dollar index to slide toward the high 60s or low 70s.

That prospective fiat devaluation creates a novel macroeconomic backdrop for Bitcoin. Unlike past cycles, Bitcoin has never traded through an extended structural decline in the U.S. dollar index, having launched shortly after the 2008 financial crisis. As purchasing power diminishes, institutional and retail capital pools seeking immutable scarcity could gravitate toward fixed-supply assets. Furthermore, Cole suggests that broader technological disruptions—such as artificial intelligence eroding traditional corporate competitive moats—may further elevate Bitcoin’s appeal as a decentralized, programmatic alternative.

While Strive has previously drawn market attention for expanding its own corporate Bitcoin holdings, this latest commentary frames sovereign debt, foreign exchange markets, and digital assets within a single interconnected macroeconomic framework. The thesis relies on a specific sequence of compounding conditions: persistent long-term yield expansion, unavoidable government intervention, and subsequent fiat currency depreciation.
