Fujian province has officially released its 15th Five-Year Sports Development Plan, outlining an aggressive framework to deepen cross-strait athletic exchanges with Taiwan. Published by financial news service Caixin, the provincial blueprint targets joint competitive training, regional tournaments, and integrated industrial parks to boost athletic ties across the Taiwan Strait.
Joint Teams and Regional Competition
The development plan directs sports authorities to explore forming joint Fujian-Taiwan teams to compete in national leagues and multi-sport games. Under the strategy outlined by Caixin, Fujian aims to secure a series of national-level sporting events hosted jointly by single-sport governing bodies.
Local sports organizers will also explore co-hosting and rotating regional competitions in sports such as basketball and baseball with Taiwanese sports organizations.
Baseball Expansion and Professional Rosters
The province plans to strengthen the construction of the joint Fujian-Taiwan baseball team while refining incentive mechanisms for Taiwanese athletes joining provincial rosters.
According to the policy document reported by Caixin, provincial authorities will support existing professional baseball clubs and encourage municipalities with sufficient resources to establish new professional teams capable of competing in domestic and international leagues.
Industrial Parks and Commercial Integration
Beyond competitive sports, the plan prioritizes economic integration through sports manufacturing and commerce.
Fujian will continue building cross-strait sports industry cooperation parks.
