Unitree founder and company chief Wang Xingxing announced that embodied artificial intelligence is approaching a critical “ChatGPT moment,” enabling humanoid robots to handle roughly 80 percent of tasks in unfamiliar environments based solely on text or voice commands, according to reports from Reuters and financial media outlets.

Unitree Founder Outlines Future for Humanoid Robots

Speaking at the World Robot Conference in Beijing, Wang outlined a future where humanoid robots transition from strictly controlled scenarios to dynamic, real-world applications. According to Reuters, Wang described this upcoming “ChatGPT moment” as a vital industry turning point that could trigger massive market growth. However, reaching this milestone depends entirely on overcoming persistent software hurdles.

Technical bottlenecks remain formidable. Wang noted that even minute physical movement discrepancies can drastically reduce a robot’s task success rate.

Heavy Investment in World Models and Software

To bridge the gap between simulation and reality, Unitree is redirecting significant capital and personnel toward developing advanced “world models,” according to Wang’s statements covered by Reuters and finanzen.ch. These AI architectures are designed to help machines perceive their physical surroundings and adjust their behavior accordingly. Despite these heavy investments, Wang acknowledged that Unitree currently lags behind in practical physical-AI deployments, admitting that current humanoid hardware lacks the robustness required for widespread commercial rollout.

To refine the systems continuously, developers must combine virtual simulations, real-world machine testing, and direct human evaluation.

Stock Market Debut and Market Volatility

Wang’s strategic outlook follows a dramatic initial public offering for Unitree on Shanghai’s STAR Market, which took place on August 19, according to financial reporting. Priced initially at 150.80 yuan per share, Unitree stock soared approximately 460 percent to close its first trading day at 845 yuan. The following trading day brought a decline, with shares dropping nearly 19 percent to close at 687 yuan.

Through the IPO, Unitree raised $905 million in capital. According to the company’s official prospectus details cited by Reuters, those funds are earmarked for expanding robotic hardware and software development, launching new commercial products, and scaling up manufacturing facilities. At present, Reuters notes that a large portion of Unitree’s customer base remains anchored in universities and research institutions rather than mainstream commercial enterprises, underscoring the gap that advanced AI models must fill before widespread industrial adoption becomes viable.
