Lawyer of Miracles’ Accused of Defrauding Immigrants Seeking Legal Status

Washington state immigration attorney Alexandra Lozano is facing a mass lawsuit filed by former clients who accuse her of fraud, marking a dramatic fallout for a practitioner who once promoted herself as the “Lawyer of Miracles.” According to the Seattle-based law firm Barraza Law, immigrants across the United States are signing up to take part in the litigation following Lozano’s resignation from the Washington State Bar Association rather than face disciplinary action, a decision that permanently prohibits her from practicing law in that state.

The Allegations and Marketing Tactics

The complaint alleges that Lozano operated a humanitarian immigration mill, taking on cases that she should not have handled. According to Seattle attorney Vicente Barraza, who is leading the case, the firm utilized marketing materials featuring images of the Virgin of Guadalupe to create the impression that Lozano could perform miracles for immigrants seeking legal status. The lawsuit further claims that the firm submitted fraudulent paperwork for clients, asserting they were victims of abuse or trafficking often without their knowledge or consent.

Los Angeles immigration attorney Joan De Valle stated that she received about 25 calls from Lozano’s former clients who previously believed they were on a secure path toward green cards. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has responded by issuing notices to Lozano’s former clients, instructing them to update their mailing addresses so their immigration proceedings can continue to be processed safely.

Defense and Firm Closure

Until recently, a suite inside a Commerce business building served as the Southern California office for La Luz del Camino, the legal team operated by Lozano. The official website of the firm now indicates that shutting down the practice represents the most appropriate response amid mounting difficulties and unfair scrutiny.

Lozano’s defense attorney, Angelo J. Calfo, maintains that his client has successfully helped thousands of clients obtain legal status. Alexandra denies the allegations raised by a small group of the thousands of individuals she has represented and will address those claims fully in court, according to a statement provided by Calfo. An amended complaint in the lawsuit also alleges that Lozano controls a multimillion-dollar domestic real estate portfolio purchased with legal proceeds and traveled on a pink private airplane valued at approximately $25 million.
