Left-wing activists ended a two-day occupation of the Lindenhof square in Zurich’s old town on Sunday morning, leaving behind painted graffiti, minor noise complaints, and a single injury, according to the Zurich municipal police and Swiss news agency Keystone-ATS.

Banners and Political Speeches Draw Criticism
Visual documentation from media outlets showed a banner featuring the German word “Festung” (fortress) alongside the slogan “Solidarity instead of closure,” while organizers hosted a weekend program combining political speeches and musical performances.
Officers established access blockades around the Lindenhof via the Rennweg before moving in on Sunday morning to clear the remaining barricades.
Police Clear Barricades as Square Empties
Police observations confirmed the historic square was virtually deserted by Sunday daylight. Municipal officers subsequently restored full public access to the area, removing the barricades used by the autonomous left-wing movement during their forty-eight-hour protest.
The occupation remained largely peaceful, but law enforcement officials confirmed a small number of incidents. According to the Zurich municipal police, officers logged multiple neighborhood complaints regarding noise disturbances throughout both nights.
A separate medical incident occurred during the early hours between Saturday and Sunday. Shortly before 05:00, a 35-year-old man fell several meters from a ledge within the Lindenhof area.
Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital for medical evaluation, though he discharged himself shortly afterward. Initial police findings confirmed no third-party involvement contributed to the fall. Occupants also used spray paint to leave various graffiti tags across the historical square before departing.
