Corporate and specialty insurer HDI Global has appointed Tobias Sigurdsson as its new Global Head of Fine Art & Specie, according to an official company announcement. The appointment places a 20-year industry veteran at the helm of a high-value asset protection division as the insurer targets further expansion in specialized global markets.
Tobias Sigurdsson Takes Over Fine Art & Specie Leadership
According to HDI Global, Sigurdsson brings more than two decades of experience in marine and specialty insurance to the role. He joined the insurer in 2017 and previously played a central role in building out the company’s cargo and specie portfolio. Prior to his promotion, he managed cargo underwriting across the Nordic countries alongside global specie underwriting responsibilities.
Rafael Rebitzky, Global Head of Specialty Lines at HDI Global, stated that the division is a highly specialized sector requiring deep technical competence, disciplined underwriting, and broad international reach. Rebitzky noted that Sigurdsson and his team will focus on expanding capabilities to deliver tailored solutions for clients and insurance brokers.
Targeting High-Value Assets and Complex Global Risks
The Fine Art & Specie portfolio at HDI Global covers a diverse range of high-exposure risks. According to the company, these exposures include museums, private art collections, galleries, cash in transit, precious metals, jewelry, and other high-value property assets.
In his new position, Sigurdsson will direct efforts to strengthen the company’s international market footprint—specifically within the London market—while simultaneously developing local underwriting infrastructure across key regional hubs. Commenting on his appointment, Sigurdsson said that fine art and specie insurance demands highly individualized solutions, positioning the firm as a reliable partner during times of commercial transformation for clients and brokers.
Educational Background and Industry Service
Sigurdsson’s career in the insurance sector began in 2002. According to corporate disclosures, he completed his legal education at Uppsala University in Sweden and later specialized in maritime law at the University of Oslo in Norway. Alongside his corporate responsibilities, he has maintained active involvement in industry groups, including service on international cargo insurance committees.
