Mayo Cultural Companions Network to Meet in Castlebar this September

The Mayo Cultural Companions Network will hold its next meet-up on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at The Ellison Hotel in Castlebar, according to the Mayo County Council Arts Service. The gathering runs from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and invites both new and existing members to help shape the future of the local arts initiative.

According to the Mayo County Council Arts Service, the upcoming session centers directly on reviewing the findings from the network’s previous Connect Café event held in May 2026. The morning schedule features a short presentation detailing those findings, followed immediately by a focused question-and-answer session for attendees.

Music and Social Connection at The Ellison Hotel

Following the presentation and Q&A, musicians from Music & Health Ireland will join the group to provide live music and social interaction, as reported by the Mayo County Council Arts Service. Organizers highlight that the visiting musicians will bring trademark tunes and casual conversation to the room before the group transitions to light refreshments.

The venue, The Ellison Hotel in Castlebar, is offering free parking for all event attendees, though organizers note that participants should contact them directly for full parking details.

How to Join the Free Mayo Cultural Companions Network

Cultural Companions operates as an Age & Opportunity Arts Initiative designed specifically to connect older adults who share an interest in arts and culture, allowing them to attend public events together as a collective group. The initiative is supported by the Mayo County Council Arts Service alongside Mayo Age Friendly, and it receives funding from Healthy Mayo through the Healthy Ireland Fund supported by the Department of Health.

Membership in the network is entirely free. Once enrolled, members receive a regular calendar of regional arts and cultural events. Participants independently book and pay for the specific events they wish to see, then coordinate to meet at an allocated time prior to the performance or exhibition for a built-in social get-together.

Anyone interested in securing a spot for the September 30 meet-up or requesting a membership form can contact the Mayo County Council Arts Service by calling 094 9064387 or by sending an email to mayoarts@mayococo.ie.
