Amazon Prime Video is expanding its live sports footprint by becoming the exclusive local streaming home for six NHL teams starting with the 2026-27 season. According to a joint announcement from Prime Video and the NHL, the multi-year agreement covers in-market viewers for the Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues within each team’s respective regional territory.
How the Six Teams Reached Prime Video
The deal follows a turbulent period for regional sports broadcasting after the collapse of Main Street Sports Group—formerly known as Bally Sports—which wound down operations and left several NHL and NBA clubs without local broadcast partners. According to sports reports, four of the six teams—the Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Wild, and Blues—turned to the NHL’s newly created centralized production arm in July to produce their local telecasts after receiving no rights payments from Main Street this year.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks previously partnered with Victory+, a free ad-supported local streamer that dissolved following a summer of losing rights partners. According to industry coverage, the Ducks left Victory+ with two years remaining on their agreement, while the Stars held an equity stake in the platform before it shut down its operations entirely.
Pricing and Subscription Tiers
Not all six team packages share the same pricing structure on Amazon’s platform. According to Sportico, games for the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks are included at no extra charge for subscribers with a standard Amazon Prime membership.
In contrast, fans following the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues will pay a separate subscription fee of $20 a month or $100 a year. Notably, viewers do not need a paid Prime membership to purchase these four individual team streaming packages.
Expanding Regional Broadcast Strategies
The new arrangement mirrors existing regional setups on Amazon. Prime Video already carries local broadcasts for the Seattle Kraken, and the platform distributes regional networks like MSG Networks, NESN, SNY, and YES. Additionally, Amazon holds a separate 12-year national media rights deal for Wednesday night NHL games.
League and company executives emphasized that the agreements give individual clubs the flexibility to reach audiences as market demands shift. “Amazon has been a terrific partner to the NHL, and we’re excited to expand our relationship as Prime Video grows its NHL offerings,” said NHL chief media officer David Proper, according to the league’s announcement.
