Netflix has scheduled an October 27, 2026 release date for The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part documentary series exploring the life and legacy of the late Friends star. It marks the first in-depth, definitive documentary about the actor since his death in October 2023 at the age of 54 from a ketamine overdose at his Los Angeles home.
Inside the Three-Part Creative Scope
The three-part series is directed by Emmy Award winner Mary Robertson. Her credits include The Fall of Diddy and Quiet on Set. Maxine Productions, a part of Sony Pictures Television, produced the project.
Executive producers include Robertson, Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, and Aaron Saidman. They are joined by co-executive producer Lora Moftah and producer Jessica Call.
Unseen Archives and Private Struggles
The documentary features unreleased photographs and videos sourced from the Perry family’s private archive.
Production traces Perry’s journey from a rising comedic performer to his decade-defining role as Chandler Bing on NBC’s Friends. It also examines his private struggles with drug and alcohol addiction and his public advocacy for recovery support.

Federal Prosecutions and Legal Fallout
Five individuals were charged in connection with supplying the ketamine that led to the actor’s passing. Dr. Salvador Plasencia received a sentence of 30 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release, according to court reporting detailed by TheWrap. Jasveen Sangha, identified in court records as "The Ketamine Queen," was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing the drugs.
