The appointment bolsters the firm’s capabilities in handling China-Europe trade and investment matters, and cross-border commercial litigation.
Strengthening China-Europe Trade Capabilities
Dr. Song brings 26 years of legal experience to Sunwell Law Firm, having previously practiced in Paris, Brussels, Beijing, and Shanghai. Steven Yu, managing partner at Sunwell Law Firm, told the China Business Law Journal that Song is a highly regarded legal practitioner both in China and abroad. According to Yu, bringing Song on board will sharpen the firm’s proficiency in supporting the latest influx of foreign capital into China and assisting domestic companies with their international expansion, with a special focus on French-speaking areas.
Song specializes in trade remedies, cross-border commercial litigation, and outbound investment. Over the course of his professional journey, he has spent extensive time counseling Chinese businesses on investments in France and other European territories, in addition to helping European corporations establish a presence on the Chinese mainland. Early in his career, Song represented Wenzhou and Ningbo manufacturers in an European Union anti-dumping investigation concerning disposable lighters. That matter marked one of the first cases brought against China following its accession to the World Trade Organization, and the complaint was eventually withdrawn.
Professional Background and Firm Expansion
His earlier career includes positions at U.S. firm Coudert Brothers, French firm Gide, and Jade & Fountain PRC Lawyers. He operates fluently in both French and English as working languages.

Founded in 2022, Sunwell Law Firm has undergone significant structural growth. In 2025, several elite legal teams—including Yu, who formerly served as a senior partner at Hiways Law Firm—joined the Shanghai-headquartered practice. Following these arrivals, the firm repositioned its core service offerings toward international trade, corporate and commercial matters, capital markets, cybersecurity, and data compliance. Alongside its primary base in Shanghai, Sunwell maintains an office in Hanoi, Vietnam, and operates under a joint operation agreement with Hong Kong-based firm Young & Co Rowdget W.
