The Houston Public Library is launching a new 3,480-square-foot technology and creative center called TECHLink Vinson, according to an announcement from the library system. The facility will be located inside the Hiram Clarke Multi-Service Center at 3810 W. Fuqua St., replacing the existing Vinson Neighborhood Library HPL Express area.
Construction Timeline and Service Disruptions
Preparation for construction requires the current Vinson HPL Express area to close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, according to Houston Public Library schedules. Construction will temporarily restrict access to certain sections of the building. Despite these closures, most daily operations will continue at the Vinson location, which serves as one of South Houston’s busiest neighborhood libraries.
Construction crews will build out the new center over the coming months, with an official grand opening scheduled for the fall of 2025. Once finished, TECHLink Vinson will become the fifth technology center operated by the library system. The project aims to provide free public access to digital tools for local innovators, designers, and entrepreneurs.
Equipped Studios and Maker Spaces
TECHLink Vinson will house several specialized creative and technical work areas. According to library documentation, key features of the new facility include:
- Video Recording Studio: The largest video production space across all HPL TECHLink locations, featuring chroma walls along with professional lighting and acoustic equipment.
- Podcast Studio and Vlog Set: A dedicated setup built specifically for recording audio podcasts and digital video vlogs.
- Music Recording Studio: A sound-treated space outfitted with acoustic enhancements and a professional mixing table for musicians and audio producers.
- Tiny Techs Zone: An interactive area tailored for young children, offering robotics kits and 3D printers.
- Makerspace Lab: A hands-on fabrication room containing 3D printers, laser engravers, and high-resolution printers.
- Editing Lab: Computer stations loaded with updated software suites for video editing, digital art production, and music creation.
- Training Lab: A flexible classroom space hosting both virtual and in-person instructional classes for creators of all skill levels.
Community Impact and Expansion
Library officials report that the new space is designed to bridge the digital divide and foster technical skills in the surrounding community. Roland Lemonius, TECHLink Division Manager, stated that he frequently looks forward to seeing customers formulate creative plans once they discover the equipment available for public use. According to Lemonius, enhancing neighborhood quality of life through accessible technology remains a core goal for the division’s expansion.
The upcoming Houston facility mirrors features found at existing locations within the library system. Patrons can preview the planned layout and equipment quality by taking a virtual 360-degree tour of TECHLink Dixon via the library’s digital network while construction at Vinson is underway.
