Xbox CEO Shares New Details on The Elder Scrolls 6 at Gamescom

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma offered new details regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 during an interview, stating she watched a live playthrough of Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming role-playing game and describing it as “a beautiful game.” According to coverage from Windows Central and Bloomberg, the high-profile fantasy project remains years away from launch, with industry insiders pointing to a release window between 2028 and 2029.

Xbox CEO Views Live Playthrough

According to social media posts and interviews from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Sharma gained a direct look at The Elder Scrolls 6 during a live demonstration on August 11. Sharma characterized the scale and grandeur of the game as incredible, adding that the narrative scope surpasses the game’s massive scale. Developer Bethesda Game Studios has kept details sparse since the game’s initial 2018 teaser, but executive commentary has increased following active development pushes that started after the 2023 release of Starfield.

Engine Architecture and Release Timeline Estimates

Bethesda director and producer Todd Howard confirmed that both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will utilize Creation Engine 3 rather than the Starfield architecture. Howard stated that the upgraded engine allows the studio to maintain internal stability and manage builds directly. Regarding launch schedules, Windows Central reporter Jez Corden and Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier both estimated a 2028 to 2029 release window, noting that at least one Fallout remaster is slated to arrive before the next major installment in The Elder Scrolls series.

Platform Exclusivity Questions

The question of whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will launch exclusively on Microsoft platforms remains open. When questioned about exclusivity during her BBC interview at Gamescom, Sharma pointed to recent platform strategies for titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, emphasizing that business health dictates platform availability. Neither Xbox nor Bethesda has issued a final statement on whether the RPG will release on competing consoles alongside PC and Xbox hardware.
