Karlsruhe Bridge Fall: Police Suspect Attempted Manslaughter, Seek Witnesses

German prosecutors and police have reclassified a near-fatal 2025 bridge fall in Karlsruhe as a suspected attempted homicide, according to statements reported by regional authorities. Investigators are no longer treating the incident as an accident after receiving new evidence indicating the victim was physically attacked and pushed.

The Karlsruhe Bridge Fall Investigation

The incident occurred on a Sunday evening in February 2025 in the Karlsruhe-Durlach district, according to local authorities. A 15-year-old youth fell roughly 8.50 meters from a bridge on Durlacher Allee, landing on Raiherwiesenstraße below. Passing motorists discovered the severely injured teenager and alerted emergency services, according to police reports.

The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and spent a prolonged period in a coma, prosecutors stated. According to the Karlsruhe public prosecutor’s office, the teenager’s health has since improved significantly. Initially, police found no evidence of a crime following the fall, leading investigators to initially examine the case under suspicion of failure to render assistance before uncovering new leads.

New Evidence Points to Suspected Homicide

Recent findings led law enforcement to abandon the accident theory, according to joint statements from police and prosecutors. Investigators received information indicating that the 15-year-old, who was a passionate basketball player, became involved in a physical altercation shortly before the fall. Authorities state that at least one unknown perpetrator pushed the teenager from the bridge.

Consequently, the Karlsruhe public prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident as suspected attempted homicide combined with aggravated assault. Investigators have not yet identified the assailant or determined how the victim traveled from the Südweststadt area to Durlach prior to the incident.

Public Appeal via Television Broadcast

To generate leads, the Karlsruhe public prosecutor’s office offered a reward of up to 5,000 euros in June 2026 for information leading to the identification or apprehension of the perpetrators. Authorities are focusing their public appeal on witnesses who were in the area of Durlacher Allee, Raiherwiesenstraße, and Hauptbahnstraße between 18:45 and 19:30 on the evening of the incident.

The case is scheduled to be featured on the ZDF television program “Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst” on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 20:15, where a reconstruction of the event will be broadcast to solicit public assistance. Police ask anyone with information to contact investigators at 0721 / 666-5555.
