After mimicking co-host Christine Lampard’s Northern Irish accent, Margolyes turned to Peters and asked what accent would be normal for him.

Margolyes continued by asking if he was a mix, suggesting he had a “black daddy and a white mummy.” Peters clarified that both of his parents are Black, prompting Margolyes to state that she considered him a “high yalla,” explaining that it is a term used in America for someone who isn’t “deeply black.”
Peters responded that he did not even know there were shades, while producers intervened by warning him through his earpiece. Peters acknowledged the warning on air, telling viewers, “Oh, okay. They’re getting nervous now.” Margolyes defended her statement by asserting that she welcomes everyone and that her book focuses on inclusion. ITV subsequently removed the exchange from the ITVX catch-up version of the program, according to Digital Spy.
