Jacky Nineuil, a two-time world champion of garbure, is set to preside over a qualification contest in Gratentour, north of Toulouse, on Saturday, September 12, to select contenders for the 2027 world final, according to local reporting.
The Path to the World Garbure Championships
Nineuil’s culinary career includes work in prestigious kitchens across Paris, the Côte d’Azur, and Switzerland, before eventually taking a role as a chef in a medico-social center for children. According to Nineuil, his journey into competitive garbure began in 2009 when he formed a team of friends called the “garbur’s boys” from Montferrier in Ambres, Tarn. After multiple attempts finishing fourth, the team secured the world champion title at the competition in Oloron-Sainte-Marie in 2012. Nineuil later returned to win the title again in 2015, alongside winning a championship for pistou soup in Provence in 2016.
Judging Criteria for the Gratentour Contest
During the upcoming competition in Gratentour, Nineuil will evaluate entries alongside a jury composed of local figures and culinary professionals, including former Toulouse Football Club player Anthony Bancarel, cooking instructor Jérôme Collin, Arthur Bataille of Airbus Situation Handicap, restaurateur Arthur Bolsan, and former cooking instructor and Disciples d’Auguste Escoffier representative Patrick Brenac. According to Nineuil, the jury will assess vegetable cooking, broth balance, seasoning, and meat tenderness, looking for entries that demonstrate both technical execution and emotional resonance.
Charitable Support and Event Details
Proceeds from the Gratentour qualifying event will benefit the Marie-Louise association, following an initiative organized by Jeff Egea and volunteers from the “Un sourire en plus” association. The winning team of the Gratentour competition will earn qualification for the world garbure championships held in Oloron-Sainte-Marie in 2027.
