The former Ito Denemon Residence in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, will host its inaugural cosplay festival on May 12, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., according to the Mainichi Shimbun. The event at the nationally designated important cultural property aims to attract younger generations to the historic estate, drawing an expected crowd of roughly 50 cosplayers dressed as characters from popular media such as the hit anime series “Demon Slayer.”

Event Background and Pilot Testing

According to the Mainichi Shimbun, the historic residence historically sees lower visitor numbers among younger demographics. Ten participants in their teens and twenties utilized the building and its courtyard for photo shoots during that trial run. Feedback from the test participants indicated high satisfaction with the location, with attendees noting the strong aesthetic appeal of the venue and predicting high turnout for future gatherings.

Visitor Access and Cultural Integration

Visitors attending the May 12 festival will have the opportunity to take photographs alongside participating cosplayers. Admission to the venue is priced at 310 yen. A representative from the Iizuka City Commerce and Tourism Department stated in the Mainichi Shimbun report that organizers hope attendees will enjoy the blend of traditional architecture and contemporary cosplay culture. Inquiries regarding the festival are being handled directly by the former Ito Denemon Residence administration.
