Amazon Cargo Plane Crash at Miami International Airport Leaves 5 Dead

At least five people died and several others sustained injuries on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when a cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport, crashed through a perimeter road, and burst into flames. The fatal incident prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to temporarily halt all incoming and outgoing flights at the major transportation hub.

Flight Details and Runway Incident at Miami International Airport

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 767-300 operating flight 7598 for 21 Air on behalf of Amazon’s logistics network, according to statements from federal regulators and company spokespeople.

Footage shared across social media platforms showed the heavy aircraft coming to a stop near a roadway adjacent to a logistics warehouse, with thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the heavily damaged fuselage. Miami-Dade Aviation confirmed that the plane came to rest in the northeast and northwest extremities of the airfield property after striking multiple motor vehicles traversing the nearby road during moderate traffic hours.

Emergency Response and Casualty Reports

More than 60 units from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department rushed to the scene to battle the intense fire and rescue survivors trapped near the wreckage. Raied Jadallah, the chief of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, reported that emergency medical personnel transported three victims in critical condition to a designated trauma center, while two others were admitted to a local hospital.

Airport Operations and Federal Investigation

The accident forced a total shutdown of Miami International Airport’s runways and taxiways as emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the wreckage. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned travelers of significant delays and cancellations across the network as the Air Traffic Control System Command Center ordered a ground stop.
