Two women sustained minor injuries early Monday morning after being assaulted outside the Badlands nightclub in Sacramento’s Lavender Heights district, according to Sacramento Police.
Club Response and Increased Security Measures
Badlands Director of Operations Brian Aranda stated that the altercation occurred after the establishment had closed for the evening. According to Aranda, venue personnel witnessed the incident unfold, and management immediately intervened by calling 911 and staying with those involved until law enforcement arrived. In a statement reported by KCRA, Aranda emphasized that management is actively cooperating with investigators and has provided available surveillance footage. To address ongoing community concerns, Badlands is increasing its security presence, reviewing additional safety protocols, and offering security guards to escort guests to their vehicles upon request.
Context of Midtown Safety Concerns and Prior Attacks
The incident followed the conclusion of Sunday’s Rainbow Festival, an annual event that drew large crowds to the LGBTQ+ neighborhood under heightened security measures. Midtown businesses and organizers implemented stricter protocols, including multiple security gates and additional personnel, following a series of violent attacks over the prior year. Another victim, Andy Cortez, was attacked near 20th and H streets on October 7, 2025, while walking home from Lavender Heights, leaving him with broken teeth. Weeks later, Alvin Prasad was assaulted after leaving Badlands on Halloween 2025 and subsequently died from his injuries; a 25-year-old man currently faces an involuntary manslaughter charge with a hate crime enhancement in connection with that case.
Community and Municipal Responses
In response to the recurring violence, the Midtown Association announced plans to implement Safe Space training for local businesses later in the year, alongside infrastructure upgrades such as increased street lighting along K Street in Lavender Heights. As of Monday morning, Sacramento Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the latest assault outside Badlands, and the investigation remains ongoing.
