The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when an employee of a car rental agency contacted police to report that he was actively trailing an unreturned Opel. According to police statements, the employee used GPS tracking data to locate the vehicle and followed it to the Schaalsee rest stop in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. Upon arrival at the rest stop, the employee approached the driver regarding the overdue vehicle return, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation between the two men.

When officers arrived at the scene to intervene in the dispute, a subsequent check of the driver’s credentials revealed multiple severe infractions. According to the police investigation, the driver had his official driver’s license revoked six years prior to the incident. Furthermore, a roadside drug screening test administered at the scene returned a positive result for cocaine use.

In addition to driving without a license and operating a vehicle under the influence, authorities noted that the Opel showed visible signs of recent damage.
