Missouri sports betting reached its lowest monthly handle since the state market launched in December 2025, according to financial data published by the Missouri Gaming Commission. Sportsbooks across the state accepted $246.8 million in wagers during July, marking a 4.5% decline from June’s $258.3 million total and the sixth straight monthly drop.
Handle Drops While Revenue Climbs
According to the Missouri Gaming Commission’s financial report dated August 15, 2026, mobile wagering accounted for $243.5 million of the July handle, while retail sportsbooks contributed $3.3 million. Despite the lower betting volume, taxable adjusted gross revenue rose sharply to $21.8 million. That figure represents a 59.4% increase from June’s $13.7 million, pushing the state’s sports wagering tax take to just over $2.19 million, which is also up 59.5% month over month, according to commission data.
July’s hold rate of 8.83% was the highest of any month since launch, allowing operators to offset the smaller total amount wagered. Missouri’s market opened with a $543 million handle in December 2025, though sportsbooks lost a combined $20.7 million that month due to heavy promotional deductions.
Operator Breakdown and Leading Sports
Based on figures reported by CDC Gaming, DraftKings held the top spot among all Missouri operators in July by generating $108.8 million in wagers, rising from $103.4 million in June. FanDuel ranked second with $66.8 million, followed by bet365 with $21.3 million, Fanatics with $16.8 million, and BetMGM with $16.7 million.
Baseball drove the majority of July’s wagering activity, accounting for $135.2 million of the overall handle, according to figures ABC17 News cited from the Missouri Gaming Commission. The mid-summer dip aligns with the traditional seasonal lull between the end of major spring sports and the kickoff of the football season.
State Licensing and Future Outlook
Eight operators currently hold licenses to take mobile and retail sports wagers in Missouri. According to the commission’s licensee-level revenue detail report for July, players can utilize national mobile platforms alongside physical sportsbooks situated at state casino venues, which include Argosy Casino, Century Casino Cape Girardeau, Hollywood Casino, River City Casino, and the Caesars-branded retail books located at Harrah’s and Horseshoe.
