The San Diego Comic-Con Málaga has detailed its schedule for its second edition, running from October 1 to 4 at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga (FYCMA), featuring over 300 hours of content across film, television, comics, and gaming without a single overarching celebrity headliner like last year’s guest, Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to event director Fernando Piquer.
Programming and Content Lineup for Málaga Comic Con
The convention features a diverse roster of creators and performers across multiple entertainment mediums. According to event organizers, the gaming sector will feature industry figures Akira Yamaoka and Dave Jones, while tabletop gaming enthusiasts can attend panels hosted by Ángel Giráldez and Reiner Knizia. Manga and anime programming includes appearances by Yoichi Takahashi and Shin’ichiro Watanabe, alongside comic creators Kenny Ruiz, Miguelanxo Prado, Jordi Lefebre, and Rick Leonardi.
The film and television lineup includes actors Elijah Wood and Sean Astin from The Lord of the Rings, alongside Kevin Smith, Karl Urban, Aya Cash, Jason Lee, and Michael Rooker. Disney is scheduled to bring Paul Bettany to debut the upcoming series Vision Quest, alongside presentations for projects such as Whalefall, Hechizo, Ice Age, En Ebullición, and Gatto. Anthony Forrest, known for his role as a sandtrooper in Star Wars, is also scheduled to appear at FYCMA.
Official App and Poster Reveals
To manage event logistics, organizers introduced a digital application allowing attendees to organize their schedules, plan itineraries, and reserve panel seating in advance. The convention also unveiled its second official poster, designed by John Romita Jr. Fernando Piquer stated during the presentation at the Museo del Automóvil y la Moda that the goal is to build a lasting community event deeply rooted in Málaga rather than functioning as a transient pop-up convention.
Regional Institutional Support and Economic Impact
Manuel Gavira, second vice president and regional minister of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation, and Local Administration for the Junta de Andalucía, emphasized the region’s organizational capacity during the presentation. Gavira stated that Málaga serves as the home for the San Diego Comic-Con brand outside of the United States due to local infrastructure and logistical capability, predicting continued growth for future iterations of the event. José Antonio Nieto Ballestero, regional minister of Artificial Intelligence for the Junta, added that hosting a major pop-up culture brand requires maintaining high operational standards, noting that future editions may feature talent emerging from the nearby Polo Digital training center.
