Four Spanish animation projects have been selected for Cartoon Forum 2026, positioning Spain as the fourth-largest contributing country at the upcoming European co-production event. According to reporting from El Jap! and Todotvnews, the 37th edition of the pitching and co-production forum will take place from September 14 to 17, 2026, in Toulouse, France, bringing together 66 animated projects chosen from 111 submissions across 19 countries.
Spanish Lineup and Studio Details
The selected Spanish slate features projects spanning preschool and older children’s demographics, developed through international partnerships. According to Todotvnews, the selections include Fantasy Riders, produced by Hampa Studio alongside co-producer Panini and directed at children aged nine to eleven; Lily & Kyle, a preschool series from Mago Production and Brazil’s Alopra Estúdio; The Electron Boy, produced by Motion Pictures Entertainment for children aged five to six; and WAW Resort, a comedy for ages six to nine produced by Peekaboo Animation. Three of these four production companies—Motion Pictures Entertainment, Peekaboo Animation, and Mago Production—are headquartered in Barcelona, while Hampa Studio operates out of Valencia.
Production Scale and International Representation
Organizers report that the 66 chosen projects comprise 61 TV series and 5 TV specials, representing a total volume of 330 hours of content. The global production budget reaches 283,58 million euros, with an average budget of 4,30 millones de euros per production. France leads the national selection with 32 projects, followed by Ireland with six, Germany with five, and Spain with four. Central and Eastern European nations account for another six projects, while Nordic countries contribute six.
Industry Focus and Pitching Schedule
The event structure is designed to connect creators with financing partners, broadcasters, and distributors through pitching sessions and One-to-One meetings. According to industry announcements, the 2026 selection includes a rising share of projects aimed at young adults and mature audiences, which now comprise 26% of the lineup. Cartoon Forum operates with support from Creative Europe MEDIA, facilitating cross-border collaboration and financial matchmaking for European animation studios.
