Female intimate hygiene remains a subject leaving many women without accessible or appropriate guidance across life stages ranging from menarche to menopause, according to an initiative launched by Essity in collaboration with Adnkronos. To address these information gaps, the companies created a three-part vodcast titled ‘Intimamente noi‘, which explores the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of women’s health and personal care.

The Role of Community and Communication Barriers

Personal hygiene functions as more than just an individual routine, acting instead as a significant social metric, according to findings from a sociological survey conducted by AstraRicerche for Essity. The survey revealed that many develop a lasting negative impression when encountering signs of poor hygiene. Despite these social pressures, intimate care remains a largely private and unshared topic. When facing personal insecurities, many individuals choose not to speak with anyone, according to the research data. Among those who do seek support, partners serve as primary confidants, while family members—including parents and siblings—also provide support. Friends are consulted by respondents, whereas medical professionals and specialists see much lower engagement across general practitioners, gynecologists, psychologists, and other doctors.

‘Intima’: The Physical Dimension of Women’s Health

The first episode of the vodcast, titled ‘Intima’ and scheduled for release on September 17, focuses on the physical aspects of feminine hygiene. According to the project announcement, this segment features contributions from Nicoletta Orthmann, scientific medical director of Fondazione Onda ETS (the National Observatory on Women’s and Gender Health); Dr. Chiara Di Pietro, a surgeon specializing in gynecology and obstetrics; and Ilaria Spinelli, marketing manager for Intimate Hygiene Iberia & Italy at Essity.

‘Mente’: Navigating Emotional and Psychological Evolution

Releasing on October 15, the second episode shifts attention toward the psychological and emotional journey accompanying bodily changes in women. According to the production details, the ‘Mente’ episode includes insights from psychosexologist Leni Marseglia, Milan City Council Equal Opportunities and Civil Rights Commission President Diana De Marchi, and Alessandra Lisco, marketing director for Iberia & Italy at the Essity Health & Medical division.

‘Noi’: Exploring Collective and Cultural Perspectives

The final episode, titled ‘Noi’ and set to launch online on November 13, examines the collective, cultural, and social dimensions of intimate hygiene. According to the schedule, this installment features a round table discussion with Milan Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo, Italian Red Cross Health Director Valerio Mogini, and Essity Communications Manager Laura Deni. The trailer for the ‘IntimaMente Noi’ vodcast is available for streaming on podcast.adnkronos.com.
