Gatama noted that local football stakeholders view FIFA’s silence as institutional backing for Eto’o.

FIFA has forcefully rejected any suggestion of interference. The governing body emphasized that the FIFA President holds no influence over independent FIFA panels. The organization stated that while it welcomes legitimate oversight, such controls do not justify ungrounded accusations against the FIFA leadership.

Legal Friction Between FIFA and UEFA

Tensions surrounding FIFA leadership extend into separate legal battles involving European football administration. UEFA previously announced plans to launch potential disciplinary proceedings in Switzerland against Gianni Infantino over proposals to sell shares of the World Cup to private investors. In response, FIFA approached the U.S. justice system, accusing UEFA of running a defamation campaign. Court filings associated with this dispute explicitly name Samuel Eto’o as a supporter of Infantino’s failed private investment strategy.
