Snapchat Introduces In-App Event Coordination

Snapchat is launching Snapchat Plans on Thursday, a new set of event-planning tools designed to help users create, share, and manage in-person gatherings directly within the app.

The feature allows users to coordinate events like birthday parties and study sessions by tracking details and RSVPs in one centralized location.

Inside the Mechanics of Snapchat Plans

Invitations go out through individual one-on-one chats. Recipients can then respond with “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Can’t Go.”

Management Tools and Privacy Controls

The platform embeds several management tools for both hosts and attendees:

  • Customization: Users can personalize events with Bitmoji-powered cover art.
  • Attendance Tracking: Hosts can monitor the guest list, add more participants, and update event details after creation.
  • Notifications: Guests receive an automated reminder one hour before the scheduled start time.
  • My Plans Profile Section: A dedicated tab on user profiles displays current, upcoming, and past plans. Tapping a friend’s profile also reveals mutual events.

Rival Platforms and the Push for Spontaneous Socializing

The introduction of Snapchat Plans places the social media platform into a competitive market for digital event coordination.
