Appadoo notes that while demand for Canadian travel remains high among Mauritians, many potential visitors grow discouraged by the prolonged waiting periods compared to pre-pandemic timelines.
Local tour operators argue that adding Mauritius to the eTA program would streamline travel logistics and boost bilateral exchanges. Despite these industry concerns, the government of Mauritius emphasizes that visa policies remain an expression of national sovereignty. Rajen Narsinghen, the minister delegate for foreign affairs, regional integration, and international trade, stated that visa issuance principles rest entirely with individual states exercising sovereign control over their borders.
