Roberto Moreno Arrives as Interim Head Coach of South Korea National Football Team

Roberto Moreno arrived at Incheon International Airport on March 13 to assume his role as interim manager of the South Korean national football team, stating that he had wanted the position for several years. According to reports from MyDaily, the Spanish coach brings a high-profile background that includes serving as assistant to Luis Enrique during Barcelona’s treble-winning campaign and managing the Spain national team, AS Monaco, and Granada.

Contract Terms and Upcoming Fixtures

The Korea Football Association (KFA) appointed Moreno on March 1 following the team’s group-stage elimination at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Moreno’s initial interim contract covers a six-match schedule of friendlies, starting with an encounter against Ecuador on March 24 at Suwon World Cup Stadium. Subsequent fixtures include matches against Uruguay on March 28 in Seoul, Venezuela on October 2 in Ulsan, and Uzbekistan on October 6 in Yongin, followed by two more matches during the November international window. Strong performances during this tenure could position him for the permanent managerial role, though his stated focus remains strictly on the immediate matches ahead.

Preparation and Team Objectives

During the two-week gap between his appointment and his arrival in South Korea, Moreno utilized the time to study domestic cultural elements and review match footage of the national squad. “My goal is to focus on the task right in front of me,” Moreno said, according to MyDaily. “We will keep working to make the team better and unite everyone so that South Korean citizens can feel a sense of pride in their national team.” The manager is scheduled to announce his player roster for the upcoming four-match series on March 14 at the Korea Football Park in Cheonan.
