Brandon Flowers is embracing traditional country music on his third solo album, Thrasher, set for release on August 21 via Island Records, according to announcements reported by Stereogum and Rolling Stone.
Brandon Flowers Embraces Country Roots on New Album Thrasher
For his third solo project, Brandon Flowers went all-in on a full-fledged country record inspired by the music he listened to growing up in Utah, which his father referred to as “country Western,” according to a review by Rolling Stone. To capture an authentic Nashville studio sound, Flowers enlisted A-list session players including guitarist David Rawlings—known for his work alongside Gillian Welch—and octogenarian harmonica player Charlie McCoy, who played on Bob Dylan’s 1969 record Nashville Skyline, as reported by Rolling Stone.
The Lead Single “Plans” and Production Details
The album’s lead single, “Plans,” was released following the album trailer reveal, according to Stereogum. Flowers is the sole credited writer on the track. The single and the wider album are produced by Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado, both of whom previously collaborated with the Killers on their albums Imploding The Mirage (2020) and Pressure Machine (2021), as noted by Stereogum. The track features traditional instrumentation including banjo, harmonica, and orchestral strings supporting Flowers’ vocals as he reflects on how time alters personal plans.
