The Road to Recovery from Stiff-Person Syndrome
Dion’s return follows a prolonged absence from touring after she publicly announced her diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome in 2022. The rare autoimmune disorder causes severe muscle spasms and stiffness, which Dion previously described as feeling like choking and causing severe physical trauma, including broken ribs during intense spasms.
Reflecting on the challenging years leading up to her comeback, Dion told the Paris audience that the journey was “stony” and the route longer than expected, but she persevered through belief and rehabilitation. According to production and tour details, her preparation included a disciplined regimen of physiotherapy, medication, yoga, strength training, voice training, and dance.
Concert Highlights and Fan Reception
As the concert progressed, Dion shifted from emotional ballads to high-energy performances, covering the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” and delivering a funk-infused rendition of her hit “I’m Alive.” Toward the end of the evening, she performed an operatic piece to demonstrate her vocal range.
Concertgoers traveled from across Europe to witness the comeback. Cornelia Rausch, a fan from Günzburg, Germany, attending her first Dion concert since following her career since the 1980s, expressed relief simply to hear her perform live again.
French media outlets characterized the opening night as a success. Following her Parisian launch, Dion is scheduled to perform 25 additional dates in the region through the autumn and spring, with total anticipated attendance expected to approach over 900,000 spectators.
