Shooting and Combat Sports Lead Tianshui’s Medal Count
The Tianshui City Sports Movement School sent more than 600 athletes to compete across 16 major events and 23 minor events. Competition began on May 8 with the shooting events, where Tianshui athletes captured 17 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze medals. According to official tournament tallies, the shooting squad placed first in the gold medal count, total medal count, and total team points. Following this performance, the taekwondo team secured 10 gold, 3 silver, and 10 bronze medals to finish atop its respective discipline’s gold standings.
Broad Discipline Success Across Martial Arts and Team Sports
Martial arts and track and field events provided substantial point contributions for the delegation. The wushu team earned 8 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze medals, while track and field athletes added 9 gold, 1 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Additional medals came from Chinese style wrestling with 3 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze; judo with 5 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze; standard wrestling with 4 gold and 10 bronze; boxing with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 8 bronze; and table tennis with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.
Team sports also showed competitive progress. The men’s Class A volleyball team finished sixth, the women’s volleyball team placed fourth, and both the men’s Class B and women’s Class A basketball teams claimed third-place finishes.
Development Infrastructure and Future Outlook
Tianshui City Sports Movement School coach Ding Yichen stated that over 95% of the delegation’s participating athletes were independently selected and trained by the school. This performance reflects ongoing institutional investment in youth sports training systems and athlete pipelines. The delegation’s results point to sustained regional capacity in competitive sports disciplines heading into future provincial cycles.
