Four French nationals were sentenced by the Criminal Court of La Côte in Switzerland on September 14, 2026, for a violent hotel robbery committed in Chavannes-de-Bogis in April 2025. In addition to the Chavannes-de-Bogis robbery, one of the four defendants faced prosecution for a similar hotel heist executed a month earlier in Verbier, located in the canton of Valais. On March 12, 2025, that defendant and an accomplice targeted a hotel worker, striking him in the face and throwing him to the ground. The victim was bound, gagged with adhesive tape, and dragged to an office containing the cash register. The perpetrators escaped with more than 10,000 Swiss francs, 1,250 euros, and several keys. Investigators matched DNA retrieved from the adhesive tape roll at the scene to the suspect.

The public prosecutor’s office stated that these robberies were not isolated incidents but part of a coordinated wave of hotel burglaries across Switzerland dating back to at least 2024. Prosecutors described a hierarchical criminal network orchestrated from France that recruited young men from the Lyon area primarily through social media platforms like Snapchat.
According to the indictment, remote organizers planned the operations, supplied instructions through dedicated messaging groups, and monitored the crimes in real time. The standard modus operandi involved breaking in at night, overpowering desk staff through violence, extracting safe access codes under duress, and absconding with cash and valuables.
During the hearing on September 14, 2026, the defendants issued apologies to the absent victims and expressed regret for their actions. One defendant stated that he had initiated restorative justice measures while incarcerated by meeting with victims of unrelated offenses.
