According to the Cabrillo High School Aquarium, the facility opens its doors to the public roughly once a month during the academic year, with each event highlighting a distinct theme. The schedule includes:

- 40th Anniversary Celebration & Mural Unveiling: September 23, 6 p.m.–8 p.m.
- Sharktoberfest: October 21, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., featuring ocean predators and feeding demonstrations.
- SEAson’s Greetings: December 9, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., featuring holiday decorations.
- ¡El Niño!: February 10, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., exploring environmental phenomena like El Niño and La Niña.
- Student Projects: March 17, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., showcasing student animal-care projects.
- It’s Earth Day!: April 21, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., featuring Earth Day displays.
- Marvelous Marine Mammals: May 19, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., focusing on marine mammal biology.
