A Paris court awarded Kim Kardashian 1 euro in damages on Tuesday following a ruling over her 2016 armed robbery in the French capital, matching the exact compensation she requested, according to a lawyer involved in the case who read the court’s written decisions to The Associated Press.

The Paris court ruling brings a legal conclusion to the October 2, 2016, heist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Fashion Week. According to court records, two robbers dressed as police officers forced their way into Kardashian’s suite, bound her with zip ties and tape, and stole more than $6 million in jewelry, including a diamond ring she wore that night to a Givenchy show. Kardashian described the incident as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”
Alongside Kardashian’s 1-euro judgment, the court issued payouts to other victims present during the crime. According to lawyer Mohand Ouidja, the court awarded 109,516 euros ($126,472) to a former receptionist at the hotel who sought 550,000 euros ($634,868) in damages and interest after being traumatized by the jewel heist. The court also awarded 1 euro to Simone Bretter, Kardashian’s stylist who was present during the robbery, and 50,000 euros ($57,741) to the hotel itself.
Status of the Convicted Robbers
The legal proceedings concluded without sending the perpetrators back to prison. Because of their ages, the gang became known in France as “les papys braqueurs,” or the grandpa robbers, with six members aged in their 60s and 70s when tried for armed robbery, kidnapping, and gang association. With time already served in pretrial detention, none of those found guilty went back to prison and none appealed the verdict.
