A 17-year-old boy is dead and another teen is critically injured following a late-night stabbing at a Myrtle Creek home, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance in the 100-block of Northeast Laurel Avenue shortly before 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Investigation and Suspect Status in Myrtle Creek Stabbing
Responding officers from the Myrtle Creek Police Department and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office arrived to find one 17-year-old boy dead at the scene, with his identity currently withheld by authorities. A second 17-year-old victim sustained critical injuries and was initially transported to a local hospital before being transferred to an out-of-area facility for specialized medical care, according to police reports.
Investigators learned that the individual responsible for the stabbings had left the home prior to law enforcement arrival. Detectives subsequently located a 16-year-old person of interest and conducted an interview. As the investigation continues, authorities have not made any arrests, and names of all juveniles involved are being withheld.
Law Enforcement Response and Community Safety
The Myrtle Creek Police Department requested the activation of the Douglas County Major Crimes Team to lead the active homicide and assault investigation. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the multi-agency team includes investigators from the Roseburg Police Department and the Oregon State Police, working in consultation with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Additional support at the scene was provided by the Myrtle Creek Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance. Officials confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public related to the incident.
