Sony Korea announced the domestic release of the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G (model SEL814G) on September 16, 2026, targeting creators who need a versatile ultra-wide perspective for E-mount mirrorless cameras. According to Sony Korea, the new lens supports a 180-degree field of view, transitioning seamlessly from an 8mm full-frame circular fisheye to a 14mm diagonal fisheye within a single barrel.

Optical Design and Versatile Field of View

The SEL814G features an optical construction utilizing extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and aspherical elements to suppress chromatic aberration and maintain corner-to-corner resolution across the entire zoom range, according to product specifications released by Sony Korea. Photographers can switch between circular and diagonal framing to fit specific landscapes, architectural shots, and sports environments. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 meters at the telephoto end and a maximum magnification of 0.22x, enabling close-up fisheye perspectives.

Video Integration and Compact Build

Weighing approximately 314 grams, the lens uses an internal zoom mechanism that minimizes weight distribution shifts during operation. Sony Korea designed the housing to support both stills and motion production. The unit incorporates linear response manual focus (MF) control, reduced focus breathing, a dedicated focus mode switch, a zoom lock switch, and a click-switchable aperture ring for smooth exposure adjustments.

Specialized Applications and Weather Resistance

The lens accommodates three-dimensional and virtual reality (VR) capture requirements. When paired with the Venice Extension System Mini, operators can mount two units side-by-side at a standard 64mm interpupillary distance, mirroring human eye separation. A dust- and moisture-resistant construction, paired with a front fluorine coating, protects the barrel during outdoor shoots.
